Aloha!

My name is Dr. Carson Tabiolo (“Tah-bee-oh-low”)! It’s nice to meet you and thank you for taking the time to read my bio. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I have been through years of training and preparation for what I do. As I like to tell my clients (usually my younger ones) I’ve graduated from 22nd grade! In addition to all the training and preparation, I believe (and research supports) that the clinician and client fit is important for the best therapy outcomes! So, without further ado I’d like to take the time to share some parts of my story to help you make the decision of whether you and I might be a great fit!

I am Hawaiʻi born and raised.

Except for about 6 years of my childhood when I lived in the Midwest, I was born and raised in Hawaiʻi. As a long-time kama'āina (“child of the land”) I have become acutely aware of the impact my own and others’ ethnic, cultural, and racial identities have on life. I also understand what it feels like to be away from home for an extended period of time, to move multiple times throughout childhood, and to have people in your family who don’t share your DNA.

I am an older sister in a family of six.

Being one of four children, I understand the joys and difficulties of day-to-day life in a larger family. From balancing school, extracurricular activities, finances, and loved ones’ events from birthdays to funerals I understand the hard work that goes into making things happen. And most importantly in my work as a psychologist, I understand how there can be deep, genuine love in a family and areas of deep pain and division at the same time.

I am married.

As a married person I understand the “roller-coaster” that marriage can be. Some days feel wonderful, like the best thing I’ve ever experienced, and a safe place to be myself. Other days, it can feel challenging and emotionally draining, leaving me less able to express my authentic self. I understand that living in this one-of-a-kind relationship can be one of the most rewarding and difficult adventures one can embark on.

My husband is a Veteran.

Having been the wife of an active-duty military service member and now the wife of a Veteran, I understand the honor and complexities of living a disciplined and arduous military life.

I was a Junior Olympic, Division I college gymnast.

As a retired athlete and having spent 13 years of my life dedicated to my sport, I can understand the physical, emotional, and mental rigor and effort it takes to create and maintain a balanced life as a nine-year-old child and young adult in their 20s. I also understand the unintended side effects, like financial and relational strain, that a family’s sacrifice to support an athlete’s life can produce.

I am a practicing Christian.

As a Christian I understand the importance of faith, while respecting those of other faiths or those who do not practice any specific faith. From attending youth group throughout my childhood to attending a doctoral, Christian-integrative psychology program at Wheaton College, I understand that genuine faith comes with unique blessings and difficulties.

My goal is to help guide my clients to harness their strengths, lessen the impact of their weaknesses, and learn the skills necessary to live the lives they wish to live. In addition to providing therapy, I also specialize in ADHD assessment for children, teens, and adults.

If you are interested in starting therapy with me or having an ADHD evaluation done for you or your child, I am excited to offer my services where you can feel heard, understood, and confident about your next steps! Please reach out for a free 15-mintue consultation to discuss your situation, needs, and whether we’d be a good fit for one another!

Thank you!
